I would like to get a bluetooth mouse for my laptop so that I can ditch the logitech wireless dongle I'm using right now and free up USB port. My laptop supports Bluetooth 4.0

I have two kind of stupid questions.
1. Can I use any Bluetooth mouse with my laptop, even Bluetooth 1.0 version? Are they backwards compatible all the way?
2. One of the advantages of the Bluetooth 4.0 is supposed to be lower power draw. If I want my laptop to last longer, do I need Bluetooth 4.0 mouse to take advantage of that lower power draw? And would it really matter for laptop battery life? How will my laptop battery life be affected if I use Bluetooth 1.0 mouse?

Also, any suggestions on the bluetooth mice? My criteria is on the small side, non gloss, back button on the left side, and textured scroll wheel with middle click. I'm struggling to find one I would like. I'm partial to the ancient Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 mouse. However, it's probably Bluetooth 1.0 if that makes any difference (not sure if it does) and it is kind of hard to find. I've looked at Logitech M557 and Microsoft Sculpt Comfort, but they're both glossy, M557 does not have back button and Microsoft is just.... weird and apparently you still can't customize button on the left to be a "back" button, it only works as "start" button.

Bluetooth is supposed to be backward compatible. As BT advances, new features are added. Backward capability only works for the features in the older system. 4 to 1 is quite a stretch.

Can't help with mouse selection - never used a BT mouse. Mainly audio.
