Will be buying the Rebel XSi and I have a few regular SD cards lying around... 1gb, 2(500mb)... basically unused right now.

1) Are these good enough for a DSLR? (speed problem?)
2) Is that good enough capacity for a full day of shooting (ie. a guest at a friend's wedding)

I may end up getting SDHC anyway because of the cheap price but I want to know if these can be used so they're not completely wasted...

Not enough capacity for 12MP RAW. Get 4GB at minimum; I shoot 16GB cards because they're so cheap these days.

http://www.us1photo.com/catalo...o.php?products_id=6382 Just says professional SD. Does the HC just mean anything over 2GB?

I'm concerned about writing speed being an issue... aren't SDHC better than the originals in that way too?
You shouldn't be too concerned about writing speed. DPReview tested the XSi with a Sandisk Ducati SDHC card (the fastest on the market) vs a regular 133x SD card, and the difference in timing was miniscule.

Get something like this and call it a day, or splurge the extra few bucks and get this card instead.

8GB cards are available for about twice the price; double it again for 16GB.
