Do I need an extra IP address????

Finally after a long patient wait i'm getting cable broadband. I plan to use a combined router and hub for my son and myself (2 computers). We both enjoy on line gaming and participate at the same time (different games). Do I need an extra IP address to make our system more efficient. Cost is pretty cheap $5-$6 for extra IP address. does the router complicate things. I know I need a firewall, should I use a software or hardware solution.
Thanks to everyone for the help Mark

From what I have seen the router is a great firewall as it is. This will not require the need for a 2nd Ip address. However you mentioned gaming, I believe that most online game require a specific IP address for each PC. Not sure if this is really needed with 2 PC playing different games though. I myself had 2 IPs until I got a router, gaming wasn't much of an issue though.

Some games will kick you off unless you have your own IP because they think you may be cheating. I think some Quake servers are like that

I have already had two PC's from my Linksys firewall/router running at the same time (even on the same server) for Team Fortress. Each PC had a seperate IP from the router only (internal 192.168.1.x on the LAN side).
