I just got an AMD Duron 600 and in the manual it says "ONLY AMD-recommended power supplies should be used." I'm just upgrading a computer for my brother which we are going to use his existing ATX case. The case is from when we built a AMD k6 200mhz computer. It has 230w power supply and according to the Duron manual, the minimum is 150w. I'm running this on a new Abit KT7 Raid board. I know the original Athlons required a certified power supply, which I have in my own system. Anyone having trouble running a Duron w/ a no name power supply or other suggesions?

If you have a really good 230W power supply you should be ok, but generally you want a 250w power supply just to be sure.

Just wondering, but what would happen if for a short period of time, there wasn't enough *juice*. For instance, if my brother is burning a cd, surfing, and doing some other things, would anything critical happen if he's a little short on power on his current 230w? Thanks for your help :p

System freeze? CD-writer suddenly stop?(ohoh)
Reboot likely.

My fiasco with inadequate power came to an abrupt end when my CPU fan didn't start up. Before this occured, i was having several interesting experiences whereby one of my components simply refuses to startup. Could be ony of my harddisks or one of the CD-rom drives.

NO damamge will be done, but defintly a freeze or something like that, I would certinly try it, but if it doesn't work, buy a AMD certified 300W PS
