DO I need a sound card w/Nforce3 Ultra chipset?

I'm building a new system. Just curious if the MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. w/Nforce3 ulta will need a sound card like Audigy2. Or will the onboard sound be enough? It only says 8 channel though and I know my games run at least 32 channels.

Thanks!

8 channel means it will run 8 speakers essentially.

but yeah depends on what you use your PC for, i am using onboard right now, waiting for my chaintech soundcard to come back from RMA, and it works fine.

the audio on that board should be OK for general use too.

I'm into FPS games like Battlefield, Doom 3, HL2. I don't want to miss out on any sound and I don't want to CPU taking the load. Will I be ok. Or do you recommend a sound card?

By the way... What does the NV5 mean next to your Geforce 6800gt?

i play cs if you want to not miss out and hear were everyone is a headset is the best option no doubt.

recommended headsets
SENNHEISER pc-150 ( need a sound card)
SENNHEISER pc-155 ( usb plugging no sound card needed) nice for lan
Plantronics audio 90's ( need a sound card)
Plantronics dsp-500 what i have ( no sound card needed usb) nice for lan

audio 90's are like dsp-500 with sound card
pc-150 is like pc-155 with sound card

i would go witht he pc-155 the best headset out right now

these headsets all have mics

Always found the sound via PCI slower than the onboard. Sis has an Audigy card and it's not as fast as what I have onboard with C-Media. Don't have the stuttering in games. If you want a few frames more take the PCI route to play Doom 3 (but anything above 32fps you'll really won't notice, because the eye won't tell the difference -- a point that seems lost when the frame rates are above 200 now). It's why I'm in no hurry to buy a $300 to $500 videocard. What you're buying is the new features which most games haven't employed yet. A year or two, it'll be worth buying. It's not worth buying just to play one game now -- save the money to buy other things.
