Hello all, i will be upgrading from the stuff in my sig to a PH II 940 and a 4890 and will probably go CF in the near future. will my current PSU be enough for this ? I also plan to add at least 3 2TB HDD's as soon as seagate get theres on the market and prices drop. My current PSU is the Artic cooling 550RF, it has the required connectors but im not to happy with it overall you can read my post about my thoughts on it here

If there is any doubt it can handle 2 4890's ill replace it in a heartbeat but if you guys think its enought i guess ill keep the POS.

two HD4890s, an overclocked Phenom II and a bunch of hard drives will be a little much for this particular unit.

1) It is overrated (actually rated at Peak instead of continuous)
2) It is based on the same Seasonic platform as the Corsair VX450, PC P&C Silencer 500W and original Antec Earthwatts 500W. This platform wasn't really designed for more than 500W.

So in reality you don't have a 550W PSU on your hand, but a 500W PSU with a rather small 12V output.

You will certainly want to upgrade. I suggest going for a good quality 750W+ unit.

Antec Truepower New 750W
Corsair TX750
PC P&C Silencer 750

Antec Earthwatts 750 (still waiting on a review of this, but I am sure it is a good quality Delta unit)
Maybe push it to a Corsair TX850

That is a pretty good choice there. I have recently purchased a 550vx model for a friends build. It was packaged well and the cable lengths were a bit longer than some models, so it came in handy when I routed the cables behind the mobo tray. Don't know if that makes a difference for you, but in my case it worked out well. I'd recommend the 750tx for just about any X-fire/SLI setup. Plenty of connectors to do the job and plenty of Amps to do the job too!!! If you stick with a single GPU, I'd even recommend the 550vx or even the 650tx, depending on what your demands are.

Thanks for the info, yeah i can sure use longer cables as i have a bottom mounted PSU with my antec 300, i had to buy extension cables for my AC 550RF and i dont like using extension cables if i can help it. I think ill go with the 750 or even 850 if i can find it cheap as CF 4890s looks like the direction im going.
