I have a motorola Surfboard modem that is about 3 years old. They have 3 models newer than the one I have. I noticed that my modem lists it's upstream at a max of 10Mbps. The newer models list an upstream of 30Mbps. So would it be worth it to get a new one?

Also, what is the life expectancy of a modem that is on 24 hours a day?

Is your service rated above 10Mbps? A little speed improvement isn't going to be noticeable if you're already running above 1.5Mbps.

Are you serious? If it's not broken, it's not broken. I had an original 20 lb. white SurfBoard from RoadRunner's early beta rollout in 1997 that worked perfecly till I moved recently.

Can you currently upload at 10Mbps? Unless you're actually able to upload files at close to 1000KByte/sec, the upstream max on your modem isn't hurting you. Personally, I have RR Business Class and I can't upload that fast. I rarely break 1000KByte/sec downloading.
