Well :) it's this time of year again for another add on to my computer...I'd been installing alot of games. And didn't want to uninstall them :(

first of all my mobo is compatible with ATA-133 and SATA. I have a maxtor (diamond 9 series or something) atm which ran pretty well on me for almost a year, but I would try out another HDD with a higher capacity w/ at least 160 Gb of space. What would you guys recommend for nice HDD upgrade/increase/add on whatchamacallit?

btw...I dont have much money floatjng around lol

Check the hot deals forum. 200GB or smaller disks should not cost more than $30 or $40 AR if you shop right.

Get whatever drive you want, a lot of GBs can be had for between 100 and 150 dollars. They are all about the same in terms of quality IMO. Everyone has a horror story about some brand or other failing, but drives are mechanical devices, and any is bound to fail at some point. Also get a drive with the longest possible warranty.

Obviously some drive families have had issues, but mostly buying any drive will be fine. If it were me, I'd just determine how much more space I thought I'd need and shop around for a drive that nmet those needs and fell within my budget. that's what I do all the time, so far I have not regreted it. My horror story is I had 2 200 Drivezilla drives from WD go bad on me. They were replaced under warranty quickly and painlessly. On the flipside, the drives I've had the longest are 2 13GB WD drives that are still in use, one in my file/print/testing web server the other in my Linux box.

get whatever has a huge rebate on them that week from bestbuy, compusa, or staples. Should cost you maybe $50 after you get the rebates

get either a western digital or seagate. and get one that sports a 16 MB cache and a SATA 150 interface. These are the fastest ones. Try to hit the 300-400 GB "sweet spot". These dont cost that much, at about 50 cents per gigabyte.
