do i need a new case?

Ghetto external case fan kicks ass. If you really wanna get a new case, check out the Antec SLK3000B. $46 shipped from Amazon.com. Comes w/ a 120mm for exhaust. 2nd 120mm for intake is optional.

You do know that the fan you are using puts out TONS of EMF.

AC fans like that can distort PC monitors from 1 foot away.

Get one of the super duper 80 mms.. My thermaltake 80 came with both a manual speed knob and a thermal probe on a long wire for auto speed control. When its on high, it seriously moves air. And its also seriously loud. But at lower speeds its fairly quiet and still moves air better than the stock 80 you have in the back.

There are also exaust fans that mount in an unused PCI slots. Between those you may be able to keep that case.

Ditch that house fan for the reasons cbehnken stated.

Haha, is that your HP? Looks nice 🙂

I would def get a new case, even a 20 - 30 dollar one, just for more room and better airflow.

But then you have to play with the HPs front panel wiring headers on the mobo and adapt it to the new case. Not fun, because they are not standard. And probably not labled either. Id keep the current case and just improve the airflow. Much much easier.

He has two free pci slots to put slot coolers in and stick a killer 80 mm in place of the stock.

Looks like a nice Antec PSU in there. What kind of case is it? Looks like it could use some opening up on the front side. Especially if you are going to put it on the carpet. Look how much airflow there is from the front bezel.

I would ditch that heatsink fan that in on there first then put in a high cfm 80mm blowing in, in the rear.. then make a way to put on in the front drawing in as well get the PCI ones that were mentioned and remove the top or drill holes or what ever it takes... heat rises so give it some were to go... my case is only a little bit bigger but it breathes awsome.. I have a xp2400 running at 2.3 gig and idle temps are 29'c and playing Q3 I get like 37'c I cut out the dual fans setup in the rear added 2 blow holes in the top and cut out a spot and installed a 120mm in the front with one PCI fan and she is doing ok... some times you just gatta break out the tinsnip's and the dremel...

Maybe. Did that hs/fan come with the HP and CPU originally?

With a killer 80 drawing air right past it you might not need it. What temps does the cpu get to?

But it sure wouldnt hurt.

Snag the Zalman and get the TT case fan..

Many Zalman coolers are huge and require your board to have the right mounts and plenty of room, so check the size and mounting specs. It looks pretty tight in your case. Many of them are super heavy also, like twice the recomended weight that intel specs.

It might be easier to keep the heatsink and just replace the fan with a mucho better one. That one looks pretty wimpy.

wel my monitor is 4 ft away and its an lcd anyway. not a crt.
yes, it is my sadly, hp pavilion computer case. but inside its a gaming computer.

the external fan hardly does alot, it just keeps the heat from building up but has no added effect to ariflow (which the hd blocks where i should put an intak fan. stupid hp desginers)

how would i put a fan in the pci slots? all i could do is move the audigy card down a slot and open the two in between for some air movemet.

if i get more fans, i don't care how loud they are, the graphics card is still louder. i am looking actually getting a new cpu heatsink from zalman, since the cpu overheats alot.

the problem with getting a new case... it will void the warranty on the hp in case anything goes wrong. what should i do, oh gurus of compase case wisdom?

I wasn't concerned about the effects of the fan on your monitor, I was warning you that it will have negative affects on your machine. If you'd like to go on crashing and risking data corruption go right ahead and have fun then.
