I'm in the process of receiving the WD 120 Gig, 7200 rpm, 8 Meg cache from dell.com. I was wondering if you guys think I need a HD cooling fan. I've heard mixed opinions and i still can't decide. I'm currently running 2 hds, a 20 gig and a 30 gig and they seem to work fine without one. thanks a lot. i appreciate it

Nah.. it's no Deskstar :p:D

Edit: I must add that I personally always cool my hard drives because while it may not hurt it to go without a fan, cooling a hard drive can add some more hours to it's operational lifetime

Not necessary but it doesnt hurt. If you have a newer case like the lianli or sx1030, putting it behind one of the 80mm intake fans is more than enough.

In my opinion, you definitely do not need one. I have this drive and have put it through some serious work already (it now has 105gb on it) and it has stayed as cool as the other side of the pillow. :)

It's a very nice drive, I'm very happy with it.
