Do I need a Full Tower or Mid Tower?

I have a GTX 285, what other things factor into it?
I'll keep this page open and I'l respond quickly, I dont know what are the most important factors in choosing a full case or mid case. And after that, any case recommendations for a first time builder?

Edit: I've heard that "Ultra" Cases are really good, but I guess Newegg doesn't carry them. I'll have to get them from Tigerdirect. (assuming that brand is most recommended)

Edit: is this too small/would not work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811129042

More informaiton would be nice, like:

How many drives?
What cpu?
What cooler do you have?
Overclocking or stock?

All in all, I would recommend an Antec 300 as a good starting point.

1 DVD Drive, 1 Hard Drive, I would get a SSD later (so 3 total (with DVD), but it would be nice if it could support more than 2 cause my mobo has so many SATA ports)
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.16 FSB 1333
I was thinking about getting a Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
I would overclock the CPU a bit... not too much...

Then I will stand by the Antec 300. It's a great mid-tower and the egg has them for $60 or so right now.

It is heavier then a nice alu case, but it is strong and inexpensive and will do everything you need plus some.

One of my friends recommended that I get a full tower case. Why would anyone need one? (airflow? Video Card too big? An insane amount of HDD's?)

A full tower is going to give you alot more room for expansion. Most full cases can hold 2 dvd's, 8 hard drives, extended motherboards, and are much more friendly if you want to water cool your system. Other then that, a case either works or it doesn't.

If you look at my sig, my quad is in a mid tower (Lian Li PC-7F) and it works great. 5 Drives, 2 dvd's, GTX 285 SSC, Overclocked, and three low-speed yate loon fans. This system moved from an Antec 900 as I have always wanted to use a really light alu case.

I was browsing newegg and its funny that you should say that u switched from an Antec 900 because I just came across that one. It has over 4000 reviews and 82% are 5 eggs. Besides being heavy, was there anything bad about it in ur experience? (I was going to get the EP45-UD3P motherboard, but I saw you had the EP45-UD3R... Are there any major differences that make one better than the other?) (thanks for all your help so far)

Edit: My PSU would be http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139005

Loved my 900...had many systems in it. The only reason I changed was with the latest system, I wanted to try out a smaller, really light case that had good cooling for a quad...that's the only reason.

Just so you know. ;O
I also recommend the HAF if you go with a full tower. It's wide enough to support the largest of heatsinks and has really great airflow, cable management layout, and user friendly touches.

That being said, if you're not sure that you need a full tower then you almost certainly don't.

I concur. I've used all of them and the Antec 900 is rather cramped and HDD mounting is a pain and gets in the way of long video cards. The odd-shaped top can get annoying. I still use it (it's in a cabinet with a low-powered server inside).

The CM RC690 was a nice case to use. HDDs are mounted perpendicular compared to the 900 and don't get in the way of longer cards. It's a nice case overall.

The Antec 1200 is your standard bling case. Works well, lots of airflow, but still has some of the disadvantages of the 900. The HAF has mountings for watercooling, has toolless drive mountings, but only has mountings for 5 HDDs. And you can mount the PSU on the top in the HAF (some PSUs have shorter 8-pins that won't reach behind the motherboard in a bottom-mounted PSU case).

and Provantage is a good site to get it from?
(also, as asked before, i need to know if that case will be alright with my mobo)

yeah that good enough for me... I dont know about cases+motherboards and what matters... (this would be first build) are all motherboards compatible with 95% of cases? I just don't want to order the case and then find out something doesn't fit (like the mobo, i know the GTX 285 will fit).

All ATX motherboards are compatible with all ATX cases (don't quote me 😛), the problem usually comes in with large components such as collers (Tuniq), Video cards, etc. I would also suggest you get a decent PSU.

PSU looks good and if Provantage turns out to be legit that is a great price for a great case. I wish I had gotten mine that cheap. /Hugs CM RC 690

Uhh, well, I got tracking info, is 1 day shipping amazing or what?? Its coming from IL to MI, one state, FedEx, 1 day for 3 day pricing. If it actually SHOWS UP, I may prefer these people over newegg considering the close warehouse...Newegg took like 6 days from CA last order 🙁
