i was thinking about buying a new mp3 player (NEX II) that uses compactflash. it says i can tranfer thru a USB cable. mp3 players dont usually require a separate reader for the compactflash card, do they? im going to assume there's a port on the player, since it doesn't say explicitly that it needs one. but is there an advantage to using one? like faster transfer rate or something? i don't think i'll need the reader, but im just curious.

USB readers are cool because:
1. They are faster.
2. They don't suck up batteries.
3. They're faster:)

You won't need a reader. However, it MAY be faster to transfer files with a reader than directly to your MP3 player. Why don't you get the MP3 player, see how the speed is, and then buy a reader if necessary?

Another vote for a reader -- no need for any silly synchronization routines/programs that many of these players require, or wasting batteries..

i'm considering the nex II now too :) i want an mp3 player that's CF, not SM.

This player uses standard usb transfer, NO extra software. It is slow compared to using a reader, however.
