do i need a clear coat?

My g/f finished painting her vanity....but she wants to knwo if she should apply clear coat. I just said if you want to....

should she?

If painted...not totally necessary if you used good paint. If you used cheap paint, then yeah probably a good idea to put some varnish over it.

Now...if you stained the wood, then you definitely want a varnish.

not much to add to that answer. If she wants to change the glossy-ness of the furniture, she can consider a uerathane with a different character from her paint finish, but yah, OdiN got it all.
