Hi I just over clocked my Bartorn 2500@1.8Ghz + to 3200+ @ 2.2GHZ with the stock heat sink. After playing doom 3 for about 5 hrs it doesnt get hotter than 54 degrees at idle it is about 40-45C degrees. My room temperature is about 33C. Should I buy a better heat sink ?

well you're overclocking your cpu, I say yes get yourself a better heatsink. I'm using Thermalright SLK-947U with 92mm Tornado @ 2900RPM. Get Thermalright SP-97 if its compatible with your motherboard, or a Thermaltake Volcano 12 extreme this one comes with a fan :)

all I can tell you that it's better to cool an overclocked CPU using a strong heatsink then the stock sink

As long as the noise doesn't bother you, it's pointless to upgrade your stock heatsink as it's doing fine job cooling your OC cpu.

Just upgraded my heat sink from stock to "Thermaltake SilentTower 4 in 1 CPU Cooler for Intel P4 478 & Socket T, AMD K7 & K8, with Heatpipe Cooling, Model "CL-P0025" -RETAIL" from new egg and now at full load OCd I run at 40 C stable. This is the biggest heat sink I have ever seen and I had to take the mobo out in order to install it but man it was worth it.

I wouldn't get another heatsink unless you want to overclock further. If your cpu is a mobile and you can use higher multipliers, or if your motherboard and ram can overclock more, then you have some headroom. If not then there's no use trying to overclock further.
