Do I need a 800mhz fsb processor to run PC3200 ram?

Tried to do a search and couldn't find the answer. But, would I need a 800mhz fsb processor to run DDR 400 ram?

Thanks

You do not need PC3200 to run a 800mhz FSB processor.

But to run a 800mhz FSB processor, you would need PC3200.

Wrong.
You need it to get that extra 2-3% that some people just can't live without around here. Otherwise, of course not.

No, you don't need a 800Mhz FSB proc to run DDR400.

Ok, so let me get this straight.

I dont need a 800mhz fsb to run DDR 400, but I would need DDR 400 to run 800mhz fsb?

Yes that's true, you dont need pc3200 to run a 800fsb chip because mobos have ratios to run ram slower than the bus speed.

You could even run it with PC2100, but it wouldnt be as fast. ;)

Sorry, if you want to be anal about it, you can run your memory in ratios. You would be missing out on that all important bandwidth your P4's are known to love. But really, why would you pair slow memory with a 800mhz FSB processor? Would you really want to do that?

Lemme rephrase, to run the CPU to its full potential, you would need DDR400.

I guess you didnt see the benches that were posted a while back in the oc forum,at most using slower ram you'll lose 3-5%,it's not that big of a hit as you might think.

Some people using those new 800fsb chips are overclocking to 250mhz to even 300mhz with lower multiplier P4's,good luck finding DDR500. ;)

In the benches they show that using ram slower than the cpu fsb doesnt hurt performance all that much.

3% to 5% less would not be "full potential" would it?
