Do I need a 2nd PSU?

No problem. I was waiting for closure for this thread actually... So have you reached a decision? Cool. I'm going to bed now. **This is by far my longest participation in a thread**

I sent an e-mail off to FSP about the PSU. I am going to e-mail Thermaltake and see about some type of addon to turn my unused bays into a bay that will hold a PSU 🙂

I have NEVER, EVER been able to achieve more than a 450W momentary peak on the rig in my sig. That means doing defrags on my 4 disk array while running prime95 and 3dmark05 all at the same time. My rig is heavily overclocked with two water pumps and several 120mm fans, also.

I have a Seasonic PowerAngel to monitor my power usage, and I was surprised how little power I actually use.

Since my PCP@C can deliver 650W peak (at 50C), I have no worries at all- in fact I could add some more harddrives and pumps if I wanted..

I don't remember- it was like $215 or something like that.

I don't want to sound rude, but you could find prices on google in like 10seconds...

I checked out NewEgg and didn't come up with anything. I figured it was a really expensive PSU that wouldn't fit into my budget.

But that's not entirely accurate, because you very well might max out your +12V, but never max out your +3.3 or +5V lines. And that's just the same as hitting the ceiling for your PSU--it just never shows up on your total useage. However, you can work off a delta, by turning on everything, and then turning it off. That will give you (not entirely accurate, but an idea) of how much you are using on specific devices.

And the Power Angel is about $35. I have one to, and I use it for lots of stuff. Checking out line voltages, power useage, and making sure the wiring is right at my dads while I'm replacing the electrical wiring there. Works great. It's also great for testing places to see how clean or dirty the incomg power is, although a o-scope would be useful in that too.

Bringing up an older thread again with some more information. A staggared startup might work, since I have 4 drives in raid, and then 3 250s and 1 320 in a JBOD setup on my other set of 4 sata raid slots.

Can I still do this even though they are in a JBOD setup?

Well if I was going to get a 2nd PSU I would need to get a new case, which imo would be kind of stupid. The only logical thing to do would be to get a better PSU, but ONLY if it is needed. I keep hearing excellent things about this AX500-A PSU, and don't want to spend the time and money on a new one if it isn't needed.
