do i need 400mhz ddr ram for overclocking ap4 1.6a

im building my first overclocked p4 system allready orderd everything i know i need.what i need to know is if i need new ram i have crucial pc 2100 ram that i know will run at 333 mhz speeds fine.but a friend thinks i should get some 400 mhz ramwhat do all the uber smart ppl here think? im ordering a Gigabyte GA-8IGX motherboard incase anyone wanted to know

your memory probably wont hit over 366 under best circumstances. cpu/dram dividers will let you up the fsb without
compromising the memory. if you really want to get to 400, best bet is to pick up some quality DDR333. 400 is just
overclocked 333, and not worth the price, in my opinion. my advice would be to sit on what you have, wait for JEDEC certified 400, and pick up some of that.

thats some ram i found most of the time i stay away from generic stuff but samsung is good ram.do you think that would be good ram if you dont i will just sit on my pc 2100 as you said

That is indeed a good price, but I worry about the quality. Its hard to say if these pieces have
been tested thoroughly or if they carry 'good' Samsung chips. They might run at 400 on some setups but
not others. and as i said, they are just overclocked PC2700 chips.

its a hard call, since you have memory on hand. i didnt have ddr initially, so i picked up some
corsair value select (512) PC2700 for 135.00. Luckily, it had some 'good' Samsung chips.
It is running great at 400 MHz right now.

New egg has some TRUE samsung DDR400 chips now for $100 bucks for 256mb but if you want to save money get the samsung ddr333 sticks. Or try to get some Samsung DDR266. I got some PNY from BB that is true samsung and it can do DDR400 YMMV though.

i found some kingmax ddr 400 on googlegear.com for 77 for 256 but i have never herd of kingmax are they anygood
