Do I keep old RAID5 or buy new disk?

I have 4 250GB disks in a software RAID5 configuration for data storage, so effective capacity is ~750GB. This array is a couple of years old, and I am using around 300GB, and growing slowly.

I am reconfiguring my PC, and I am debating whether to keep the array, or buy a 1TB drive to "go simple", with smaller benefits of lower noise and power. If I keep the array, there is a performance benefit, (though I'm not sure I need it), I save (for now) the cost of the new drive, and if a drive fails, I would still have access to any data that changed since my last backup to external storage.

I have a separate 250GB drive for the OS and applications. I am planning to buy a separate 1TB drive for a USB enclosure for backup purposes.

Any advice to help me decide?

Thanks!
