Do i have to use netbios?

i have one machine on 98 and another running XP. do i have to use NetBios in order to browse/use files from one to the other?

Is there another option?
 
It depends whether you want easy file sharing or just to be ?politically? correct.

I just want to be able to file share. I mainly want to be able to browse and access video aduio files. though currently i can't copy or move .exe for some reason, it'd be nice to be able to do that too.
And i'm not sure what you mean by "politically correct". i wasn't aware that computers were alll that sensitive.
