My work has a guide for VPN to connect to our work server but it requires java. The guide says to download Cisco AnyConnect client. Do I have to use this client or should I be able to download any VPN client and be able to connect to my work? If that's the case can anyone recommend a non java free VPN client?

In order to talk to the Cisco ASA I believe you must use it. It's been pretty reliable IME.

Java is only required for the applet to run to detect your OS. If you block the applet it will eventually timeout and provide a direct link.

Once installed, you can run it locally.

Grr java.. you might have to add your companys ASA address to your site exceptions under the security tab. If you dont have admin to install java youll have to get that installed. I hate java...

Yes but IT can just send you the correct client. Then you install it like any other app. It is just the autodetector.

This is correct. What is OPS issues with java anyway other than it being complete and utter trash? :D
