Do I have to unlock my 1600+?

I just got my new 1600+ but still waiting on my used(hey saved about $30) Epox 8K3a+(hope this is a good choice any opinions on it)? Anyway my question is will I need to unlock it before I can hit 166FSB(hope it will even do this speed)? Or does that only count if I am gonna use the Multiplier?

I really hate to unlock it because it looks hard. Having to use superglue and all. I unlocked a couple Athlons before with a pencil but thats about it. I will be using Cruicial PC2100 or Samsung PC2100(if either of these will even hit 166FSB which I am sure one of the 2 will). How hard is it on the ram to run them over spec?

They will have heat spreaders on them.

if its an agoia core, you can just set the fsb to 166 on that board, and i'd up the vdimm by .1V and you should have no problem hitting 166fsb

While we're on that subject, what other cores can do 166FSB w/o breaking a sweat?

The AROIA-Y parallels the AGOIA's performance closely.

I'm not sure that ARIOA or AGIOA can do 166FSB without the multiplier need to be opened... maybe with water cooling or VERY EXTREME air cooling (Vantec Tornado for every hole.... i wonder how that will sound :)).

Good cooling should be enough for the above steppings. My cooler's only rated to 1700+ and I can still hit 1750MHz with my AROIA XP1600+. Not Prime stable though. Anyway, from what I've seen, a good cooler should get you to 1.8G on those cores.

PS My results were at 1.82v. My board undervolts.

I've run my AGOIA and AROIA@166FSB@default Vcore on my 8K3A w/GC68 and 80mm 52cfm fan so I can assure you both steppings can run that speed locked quite well ;)
