Do I have to run 2 sticks of DDR to get P4 533bus CPU to work?

In class today the teacher said to get the 533mhz bus to work he thought that the DDR had to be in pairs for the Quad pumped 4x133 = 533mhz. I have one 512mb DDR stick do I need to install another to make the CPU run correctly?

Stupid question I know but I decided to switch to the darkside and have no experience with Intel CPU's as I have always used AMD.

Help!

This will be running on a BH7 (i845pe) board and not a Dual channel 655 chipset.

You wont get as much bandwidth though, alas.

So I will take a performance hit?

ifyou have ram running at 133mhz, then i guess its true (otherwise you cut available ram bandwitdh in half, which is half of what p4's capable of/needing)

however if you run ram at 200mhz or higher, its aight

(even 2 sticks in a single channel chain wont do anything i dont think to "double" the bandwithd,..you need dual channel )

Since you're running a PE chipset board, single stick will be fine (AND recommended if you're going to oc ;)). If you want more bandwidth, just remember to set the memory ratio appropriately, ie. 4:5 (if your ram is capable).

You dont need 2 sticks & YOU dont need to start 2 threads.

ddr different models.pc1600=200, pc2100=266,pc2700=333,pc3200=400 . rambus pc800=2*400 pc1066=2*533.if your mobo supports it its it bios bus 400 or 533 .if supported and cpu is 533 should auto setup speed. unless using rambus pc1066 on supported mobo you will not be able to take advantage of the full 533 bus.unless you oc.:)
