I am 17 and work for my dad he wrote me a check can I go to my local bank and get cash with the check?

If you do decide to cash it, go to the bank that issues the check. You can cash it without an accnt.

All you gotta do is go to the bank its drawn on and just give them photo id (some even require a thumbprint for records)

You should really open a checking account. Most of the time they are free and some banks won't require a minimum balance if you're young...

I also live in the Portland, Oregon area (small world 'eh?).

Go to Washington Mutual and open a FREE checking account, while you're at it, get a savings account, and ATM/debit card.

Yeah just go to your local US Bank office, bring picture ID (Oregon state ID if you're 16 or older).
