Hey all

I am thinking about buying a GF3Ti200, but i'm not sure if I should upgrade my Processor/Motherboard first...

I've got a 550mhz PIII with 512mb pc100 ram.

Would it be overkill to put a GF3 card in ?

Getting a geforce3 ti200 wouldn't hurt, but you will see the cpu bottleneck really clearly...

I have a PIII 733 and my processor can't keep up with my gainward gf3 ti200 in Aquanox... I even tried o/c'ing it to 240/550 and still no appreciable improvement... Scaling the details settings from low quality to ultra-high still results in the game running at the same speed....

If your not planning on upgrading your CPU soon then I would get a GF2 Titanium, there cheaper and would not be such a bottleneck.

There just as fast as a GF4 MX440 and a GF2 Pro.

Or, go ahead and get the video card, but plan on upgrading your mobo/cpu next.

I'm running a PIII550E @ 733 mhz with a Radeon LE 32DDR. I'm planning on upgrading the mobo/cpu first, and then upgrade to a new video card - either the GF3-Ti200 or a GF4 - down the line.

I'm wondering if a Tualatin running at FSB133 or higher at 1.333 or 1.4 ghz will drive a GF3 or GF4 well.

Just like everyone has said, it wouldn't be a waste to get the Ti200, but only if you plan on upgrading processor and mobo sometime soon. I was in the same boat as you, and couldn't decide whether to go ahead and pick up a GF4 Ti4400 to go with my 800 Athlon T-bird. I went ahead and got the GF4, but I plan on upgrading soon enough. I can tell in all benchmarks I try. Kinda sucks that I get only 5500 marks in 3DMark2001SE with my setup, and I see other people getting over 10000 marks with the same card, but a lot better processor.
