do i have good stuff?

Registered RAM is for boards that need it - data-critical servers and workstations. Same with ECC. If you don't need it, don't spend the extra money on it.

do you suggest i get rid of this (sell it for about 120 to a friend).. and buy a gig of new stuff, or keep it and buy another stick of the same?

If you can pretty much make your money back on it, then I suppose you should sell it. You have no need for registered memory. If the cost in the end is about the same, then it probably won't hurt to have registered memory.

Depends on the motherboard - what one do you have?

(If it's in your sig, I have sigs disabled)

You never know, that stick may come in handy depending on what you have.

ok... so to answer my question =P If i buy another stick of this (same IDENTICAL stuff) can i make it dual channel?

I have A7n8x-e dlx and have 2x256 sticks that are running dual. It depends on is MOBO supports it and then what slots you are using if you have more than 2.

Gota manual?

Yes he does. Right here. I bet if you look through you'll find out about your board's dual channel capabilities, including whether or not matched DIMMs help.

Oh and as I said, don't use that DIMM, or another like it.

I have an A7N8X-Deluxe Rev 2.00
Placed a 512MB module on the 3rd DIMM while maintaining the 2 x 256 MB on the other 2 slots to make it dual channel

Don't forget to bump more voltage to the Vdimm to make all 3 stable.
I'm running them at 2.8V now.

But if you are talking about having all 256MBs, I can't confirm if that works dual channel or not.

The difference in performance is not noticeable. It's only a couple of percentage points.

socket 754 won't run dual channel period nor should you care whether it does. A64's aren't as bandwidth hungry as pentiums so the improvement isn't anything special (as showcased in the socket 940 chips). Another thing to keep in mind is if you fill all 3 dimms it won't run stable at ddr400.
