So my friend emailed me instructions to wire $600 to his checking account, and i sent the money.
A week or so later he claims he didnt receive it still so I checked my online banking and did screen shot of the transaction, to which I showed him, but he said that isnt his account details.

So I went to dig out his email to check, and showed him it was what he asked me to send to, but then i saw at the bottom "mailed by xxx.com - send prank mails free" so we're a bit confused..

Turns out someone had set a filter on my gmail account with MATCHES:"routing" and then forwards to xxxxx@hotmail.com then delete message

I checked the trash bin and saw his original message, which had clearly been intercepted and new checking account details emailed by this prank email site...

now im wondering, if i am totally screwed, or should I speak to some authority?

Talk to authorities I suppose and get the bank involved. Show them all documentation?

So you would send money to your friend without verifying it with him on the phone?

Well, next time just send a money order or confirm the info over the phone I guess. It was a fraudulent transaction, and if you get somebody nice, they might rectify it for you. I would certainly alert the bank about this at the very least.
