Do I have any chance of getting broadband?

Hello all,

I live in a neighborhood that does not have any cable lines, so cable internet is out of the question. We've called and requested for lines to be put in, Time Warner (the local cable company) went so far as coming out and flagging where they were going to install the lines, but something happened and they never did anything. It's quite agrivating because on the other side of the overpass they have cable and my road pass under the overpass...it's not very far away at all (one neighbor, then the frontage road/Overpass)

According to DSL Reports (broadbandreports.com now) I live too far away from the CO to get dsl (screen shot below)

DSL Reports Pre-Qual

Finally i'm not interested in Satellite (DirectWAY) as it's too exspensive and not very good for online gaming, which I like to do, due to high latency...

Even with dial-up, my connection is limited to 28.8. This is due to not having copper phone lines, but having paragain which has better voice clarity than copper lines, but a lower data transfer limit from my understanding.

So are there any other alternatives, or is there anything else I can do in order to get someone to service our area?

Thank you,
vpr

Keep calling Time Warner as a different person in your neighborhood and tell them you want to sign up for cable. When they check and discover that they don't have any service in your area, tell them that if they install it you will sign up immediately. Rinse and repeat.

The only problem with that is after it has been installed and they check and only you are the only one using it, it won't be active for very long. :D

They came and put flags up? You're lucky. They come out to my place, look around, tell me they'll call me, then don't do anything. Yet they still mail me advertisements. I should sue them for mental anguish, considering I told them to stop mailing me if they weren't even going to supply the product. Couldn't I sue for something?! ANYTHING?!?!?!

Yea, we were getting mailings stating Time Warner Cable Coming Soon To Your Neighborhood and others that quoted a price and what not -- those quit coming... The flags eventually blew away (they were the little tiny ones) or someone picked them up... This was almost a year ago.

I live a mile from a fiber optic line and no hope for broadband...

In my experience with cable companies, you MUST keep calling them. I had cable installed for someone else, and I kept calling them asking when they were going to do it, etc etc. If you keep on their as$, they'll probably hop to it.

At just a quarter mile over the 18k feet limit you can't get DSL? A friend of mine is pretty much over the limit, but Verizon being the money-hungry asses they are, they hooked him up anyway. He doesn't get the full rated speed, but it beats the hell out of dialup...

Yes, sue them. You are entitled to broadband.

What is shotgunning? Is it using 2 dialup modems? How could you accomplish that?

I wonder how much of that fiber is sitting idle at any given time.

I would love FTTP...

Because broadband is not available. Are you in the wrong thread?

Calm down Your Leetness, I already made a suggestion - give DSL a shot. Using 2 modems, if it's even possible without paying twice as much for dialup service, is just pointless. Might as well use two paddles instead of one to try moving a cruiseship having engine trouble.

So you assume that because I asked something that I was advising him against your idea? World revolve around you, much?
I am moving to an area with no chance of cable or dsl.
