I have recently received several emails from people stating that I have sent them an infected file. The virus appears to be W32.Magistr.24876@mm. The problem is, the people that have received these emails are people I don't even know, and seem to be occuring at random. The only person I know who has received one is my ex-girlfriend, and I have never emailed her from this computer. I have a fresh install of Win XP pro on here, as of about a month ago. I didn't port any old files or anything over. The only way I have any contact with her email address is that I sent her some email a year ago using my school's web-based email system. Never from my system at home or outlook, and not since last June.

I have run Norton, Panda, PC-Cillin, and AVG on my system, and none of them have come up with any virus infections during a full scan. I used the online services each of these companies provide, so the virus definitions are new. I can't seem to figure out where this is coming from. The only idea I have is that it is something on the server side with my school, but the people at the technology helpdesk say it is on my computer. Could this be a problem on the school's side somewhere?

I have also emailed myself at several of my other addresses, and not come up with any problems. I don't get it...

The following is an email I received from someone I don't even know, at a domain I don't recognize...

In many cases this virus will "touch" files and send them out as email attachments. Such files do not contain viral code and should be considered clean. In such cases it is safe to delete the file, and it would be prudent to inform the sender that his or her system has been infected by the virus.
