Do I have a case to fight this parking ticket?

I have a permit for the parking lot at my dorm at U of M. However, my car died last weekend on the way back to my hometown, and I was forced to drive a different car back to college. I parked the car in the lot late at night, got up the next morning and went to class for an hour. As soon as I got home from class I went to the residence hall desk to ask them about my parking permit. They gave me a one week temporary pass for the car I was currently driving (will not be my permanent car), until I could figure out what was to be done with my future vehical situation. I went out to my car to hang the pass on the mirror, and I already had a $20 ticket for parking in the lot with no permit, it had been issued about an hour before I found it.

I am hoping that I will be able to fight this considering the unforseen circumstances and bad timing, and the fact that I have a parking permit clearly displaying that it covers the day of the ticket.

What do you guys think?

I would let you off, but since it is a college you will probably have to pay, because all they really want is your money anyways.

sad, but true

Colleges are never leinent on parking tickets, all they care about is your money. So you dont have a pot to piss in.

Chances are very good that they will drop the ticket, since you have a permit. I had ten tickets dropped within 1yr because of this

Give me $20 and I'll get one of the parking officers to take care of it.

🙂

In all seriousness, all you can really do is appeal to the Ann Arbor parking referee, since all Umich parking tickets are handled through the city.

They'll let you off, college parking enforcement is light, especially if you're a student.

It depends on the univeristy. Texas A&M has parking "nazis". Three horribly overweight rentacops(not UPD), driving university owned chevy tahoes. I park where they tell me to park and they still give me tickets.

Damn parking nazis. SF State's parking dept. is pretty good. I have the parking permit and forgot to put it on when I switched car once. Got ticket, but I told them about it, they checked the records, shows both cars are under the permit, and dismissed the ticket. You can put 3 cars on one permit.

The ones at UT have little scooters for the big asses.

You have a case, assuming the permit is dated the same date as the ticket. Hell, you could just say that it was on the car the whole time and the metermaid f'ed up. There is no way to prove it wasn't hung, PLUS, you have some proof that the permit was in effect the day you got the ticket (assuming there is paperwork on file of you filling out for the temporary permit).

the partking referee is in the city hall, fourth and huron. Go talk to him, he'll take care of that for you. I got a ticket for expired registration on my car, i went to SS next day and took care of it and the refereee voided my ticket. They are very cool if you dont have any outstanding voilations or anything.

My college collected over $1 million in parking tickets over the course of last year... they do not go easy on anyone.

But he might have a chance... I think its worth trying.

I can't make it to any of the referee sessions because they are all like 2 hours long, and always when I have class. I'm going to write a nice letter and mail it to him along with my ticket and permit and hope for the best.

What was the date/time on the pass vs. the ticket? Or is there just a date?

I'm sure you oculd at least try to fight it but what is the policy if you ahve a permit but it is not displayed? That's probably what you'd fall under.
