Hello all.... First post and computer newbie too. Need help!

I just built my first system and installed Windows XP Pro. I know from reading a lot of posts and technical websites that Win XP contains the 4 in 1 drivers already built in. I'm not sure I actually have them as I have read on the Via Arena FAQ page that you can determine which drivers you have installed by going into run/regedit/Local Machine/Software and you will see which drivers you have installed. I did this and find NO record of any kind about drivers.

I'm unsure about installing any new software and device drivers until I can get this whole 4 in 1 issue resolved. I don't know whether to install the Via 4 in 1 latest/greatest (4.38) from the Via website or run the installation disk that came with my Epox 8kha+ mobo which is titled "Via Series Driver Installation CD". This CD contains a Service Pack 4 in 1 Driver, AC'97 Audio Driver, BUS Master PCI IDE Driver, USB Driver. It also has something called "Ghost 5.1/6.03 which seems to be a pretty important program. Which of these are vital for me to have?

Anything that "you-in-the-know" can recommend I do with regard to all this? Do I have these drivers installed already, and if so, why don't they show up under software as described above?

BTW, I have already installed my SB Live sound card and driver as well as Gainward VGA driver and Zoom modem. Any help (in simple not-to-tecnical language) will be MUCH appreciated.

A fish out of water...

I`ve the same board and OS,anyway WinXP has native support for VIA chipsets so you don`t need too.I did on my WinXP mainly because I like having the latest drivers installed and the ones in XP are 4.32 or 4.33 I believe. You can install them if you wish, the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers are 4.38.Don`t bother with the audio stuff(AC'97 Audio Driver)that`s only needed if you use the onboard sound rather then your own sound card.

Ghost is a free program(by Norton) for copying HD files also it`s good for making backups of files etc.

So to recap you don`t need to install anything with WinXP,however you can install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers 4.38 if you wish.

More info on Ghost from here .

If you do decide to install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers get the latest from here .

I did not bother with anything on that Epox CD since it`s are out of date,I just got my WinXP stable first then decided to try the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers from the link above.

Almost forgot the USB filter driver is not really needed,(1.10 is latest version) so don`t bother with that unless you have USB problems or are like me & like to have latest drivers installed.

Thanks for the feedback and the links. Didn't you install the Ghost program from the CD? I can't figure out how "outdated" it is. It says Ghost 5.1/6.03 So is that version 5.1 or version 6.03???

Yep it`s an old Ghost version, probably why you get it free,no I did not bother with it,don`t think that version works with XP anyway.
