so last week, I sent about 5 or 6 letters and resumes to a few actuary firms. 2 came back saying the building no longer exists, and the rest, I got no reply yet. So I"m thinking of calling them tommorow to ask them about it..........you know, to show that I am willing and serious to get an internship w/ them. Hopefully, w/ my luck, they will want to talk to me.

First of all, do you guys think it is a good idea? no harm in trying right?
second of all, when I call them, what do I say? I dont know how to word it......

My plan is say "Hi, is the manager there? My name is Semidevil and I sent you a letter last week regarding an internship position. I was just calling to see if you guys are needing any interns for your company.........." or something along those lines..........(the last sentence sounds wierd actually).

what do you guys think?

It's always a good idea to call back and let them know you're still interested.

Call them back but usually if they are interested they would contact you within a week or so.

Take a shower, dress yourself presentably and go visit them in person. You get a oneup on everybody else applying for the position.

Do it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Working for a living ain't everything it's cracked up to be. Marry rich. I understand Whoopi Goldberg is looking for a man these days.

well, the thing is that for all I know, this company is probably not even wanting interns. So I"m not really competing w/ anyone. All I did was take out a phonebook and started mailing letters.

If I go there and ask for a position that might not exist.....you know what I mean?

edit: nevermind..........I'm thinking about it right now and I think that it is better to go anyways right? it's either getting wierd looks from them or landing a nice internship..maybe I should just take a chance.

You have nothing to lose. Show some initiative. It doesn't matter if they are advertising a job opening, you may walk in just when they need someone.
