do HR people help you find apartments?

i was talking to my friend, he was saying how most HR departments, after they hire you, would help you look for apartments. i've worked at a couple companies, but they've both been small companies, so i never got that kind of assistance. is that something only a large company would do? or would most HR departments do that, as long as you asked?

just curious if anyone here worked in HR knew, or if anyone could post their own relocation experiences.

If the company is large enough, they outsource that activity to a company specializing in relocations. Not only would assistance be provided in guiding towards housing in a certain area, but they could also buy your house in the area you are leaving - in the event the real estate market is depressed and houses are not selling on their own.

Small companies will also have some real-estate contacts through personal use that they can recommend to you.

At a minimum, they can advise you of area s in terms of quality and cost.

My company is about 600-700 people. Is that medium sized or small?

There are like six people in HR, but they've begun to outsource the entire relocation process to an outside company.

That company has contact with an real eastate agency in the area; but after talking to the agent, I decided to find own my apartment. They seemed to press pretty hard to have me live in an area where I didn't want to live and with apartment complexes that are nice, but places that had some very bad reviews at http://www.apartmentratings.com/ (Keep in mind that most people use this site to complain, so it's important to read WHAT people complain about and no just look at the numbers.)

I took my time, found my own place, and I'm pretty happy with the place I've got.

If I were looking for a house, I would have use the agent.
