Do homosexuals recruit?

I've never had a gay person attempt to convince me to be gay. On the other hand, I've had plenty of fundamentalist Christians attempt to convince me to be a fundamentalist Christian.

I have the same message to anyone who tries to "convert" me: Leave me alone! :|

no wonder Republicans hate democracy so much, it was invented by gays in Greece. [but to be faire those philosophers like sophocles and plato were rumored to be boy molesters but it was ~OK~ in their society]

I don't understand why everyone makes a big deal out of it. So you're gay, you don't have to shout about it. I don't shout about my hetero preference. I'd also like to know what "rights" aren't available to non-straight folks.

Who's shouting?

The same that complain about equal rights.

Crazy people. Wanting equal rights. What do they think they are? Human?

yeah those silly gay's! how dare they want the same rights i have as a straight guy! why should they be allowed to get married and have a happy life?

No need to drag politics into this.

Here we go.....let's all argue about this for the 10,258th time, shall we?

Actually I'm trying to learn, not argue. But if you'd prefer, I'll keep it to myself.

Don't, what the old time posters forget is that the discussion is new and they seem to loose their ability to NOT click a thread in time.

However, i will most likely argue and be an ass, it happens, doesn't mean you will not get a beer when we're done though.

😉

Try to avoid that and good luck.

That's what I'm wanting to know. What rights do they not have? Is marriage a right? I don't think anymore than driving is a right (it's a privilage).

Besides, the whole marriage thing is stoopid. Marriage is a religious institution and should not be recognized by the government. Govt and business should only recognize civil unions for straight and gay alike.

well i would tend to think that if homosexuality was geneticly heretiable it woudl have teken care of itself a long time ago (gay men tend not to breed as it were). Although you can never really wipe any gene out of a population completely there would have been much less of this type of behavior if it was indeed hereitable. I myself am courious about how/or why homosexuality occurs, it seems to me so couterproductive as a means of gene tranferral that I really wonder how it can possibly exist, a paradox it seems.

anyways just to clear things up I have nothing against the homsexual lifestyle, i am just interested in how homosexuality can occur in a population and be self-sustainable?

How many gay people are married and have children jsut because they deny who they are. There was recently a sex sting here in Nashville. A public park was being overrun by guys meeting for sex. A large perentage of those arrested were married. I don't know if it is a case of sexually frustrated husbands or gay guys getting married, but its something to consider.

What should be is irrelevent. Alot of places don't recognize civil unions or give benefits.
And I know alot of gays who are religious. That believe in a loving God. Not a vengeful one. And if a church is willing to marry homosexual religious men or women, should it then be allowed? We all live in sin. And people get married all the time.
Things will change. The younger generations are more liberal, and it will begin to show in time. Whether that is to the advantage or disadvantage of society has yet to be seen.

I think those that marry are trying to supress it or working really hard to hide it. I've known of several people who were married for >20 years and then came out.

Religion has nothing to do with it and many corporations are now giving benefits to same sex partners with some qualifications. Health benefits are not rights. The only "right" I see gay couples not getting is the tax penalty for married folk. If a church wants to recognize gay marriage, that's fine. The government doesn't have to.

Religion has everything to do with Marriage. If it's a religious institute, and they marry a gay couple, are they married? Or is it a civil union? If it is a civil union, why can a straight couple get married and get the benifits of a civil union, and have it called marriage?
As for health benefits, you are right. It is not a right. But it is based, in many cases, on the sex of your partner. Why? Why can a man/woman couple get benefits, but a man-man or a woman-woman couple denied. Not in all cases, but in most.
Like I said, things are changing.

I mean no offense to any straight couples. I'm glad you have the rights you do. I would just like to have the same rights under law. 🙂 No more, no less. I ask for nothing extra.

A General Accounting Office report in 1997 identified 1,049 laws where federal benefits, rights or privileges were contingent on marital status. They include tax breaks, pensions and Social Security benefits, inheritance rights and loans.

Tax breaks? Married people get taxed more...that's why it's called the marriage penalty. I don't know about the power of attorney, maybe we could get some law experts here. I think if you have a living will anyone could be your power of attorney. Please define "....the list goes on."

I agree that same sex civil unions should be recognized by the government.

Thanks. These I did not know (I'd like to see a link though). Let me ponder this for awhile. I'd still like an explination of "tax breaks". The others would make sense.

Adoption is denied in alot of cases. Soley on sexual orientation.
In many cases, gays can't get insurance or benefits for their spouses. Soley on sexual orientation.

These are not rights. Please review my previous post as I have edited it.

Interesting read. Looks like Clinton was the one to shoot down gay marriage first (but that's a discussion for another forum).

I'd love to stay and discuss this further but I must run. I have been enlightened but I still do not believe the government should create a law "permitting gay marriage". Marriage is for the church, civil unions are for the government. I do not disagree with same sex civil unions.

In union,
