Do high priced HS/F's really work better?

3 times on 3 different machines (K62-450,Duron and Athlon Slot A) I've tried the better HS/F's. All 3 times I saw NO improvement over the stock HS/F's (same temps). Anybody else have this problem or is it just me?

well, there are a number of factors that determine cpu temp besides the hsf. in general, there are hsf's that are better than others, and the better ones are usually more money. factors such as:

ambient temperature
case temperature
overall airflow
proper use of thermal pad or grease
etc....

all effect cpu temp. personally, i have had better cooling with "better" hsf's (which are usually more expensive)

Yes, same case and same case temp 32C/89F. I just dropped my cpu temp by 5 degree's. My Slot A Athlon is decased, I mounted a 50mm fan blowing on the opened side, oposite the HS/fan side. Was 45/113 now 40/104 that is with the case temp still at 32C/89F. thanks for the replies!
