Do HD overheat in a USB enclosure?

I just bought a used USB enclosure without a fan on it. It used to house a CDRW. Will my HD overheat? Can the HD withstand it not having a fan on it?

The hard drive should be fine without a fan, but that all depends on how heavy you will be using it. If you are just using it for everyday use.. office aps, browser etc.. it will be just fine. If you are using it as a multimedia machine and doing alot of video editing or data transfer then a fan makes sense... but even then it should be ok.

As a backup you will be fine. Even if you decide to go with everyday use of critical apps you will be ok as far as heat is ok so long as you aren't doing video editing or database work all day.
