Do GIANT MOSQUITOS bite?

There is one hiding in my room. I have no more "compressed air" to flush it out and capture it. I'm afraid it will attack me when I'm sleeping. Do they bite??

Before spring break 3 flew into my room when the window was open and I captured them in a glass and set them free... I have no idea how this one got in. I haven't had my window open since then. Can a gnat survive for 2 weeks without food??

Good god - grab a newspaper and smack it.

It was flying too high, at the ceiling, then it flew down. I hit it with a piece of modelling clay but it was unharmed. Now it's hiding somewhere.

oh my god.

you aren't seriously afraid of a gnat are you?

After growing up under constant threat of malaria and sleeping under a net, you better believe I'm afraid of a giant mosquito.

where the hell do you live?

Texas.

Everything's bigger in texas!

Seriously...I thought Gnats were so tiny you could barely see them. That's the thing I have always been familiar with.

Hmmm.. I remember my mom saying the big mosquito things were gnats. I looked up an image on google and found a thing that looked just like what is in my room. But in some pics, a gnat is a fly thing. So what are the giant mosquitos??? Are they giant mosquitos??!!!

Edit: It looks like a mosquito, but bigger and with proportionally larger legs. Including the legs, it's about 2".

Are they male mosquitos?

I always thought of things of that description to be male mosquitos. They don't bite.

That's what I always thought too, until my mom or someone said they were gnats. I always assumed they don't bite, but I had to ask. (I know male mosquitos feed on plants)

okay, now this thread is confusing me. if this is a mosquito, then it will not bite you, it will however draw blood and do an occasional buzz by your ear when you're trying to get some sleep.

goddam fvcking mosquitos.

The biggest mosquito ive ever been stung by was bigger than my fist. And yes, i killed the bastard.

if it's about 2", it sounds like a crane fly. They look like giant mosquitoes, but I've never heard of them biting. We have them here in MN, they're orange and only get about 1 to 1.5".
