do firewire mp3 players still exist ?

just wondering... b/c a couple years back i remember seeing some... but it seems like its nothing but usb out there now

That is correct. But it only means the cable is no longer provided. The port can still be there.
iPod There are other choices that have Firewire ports.

umm..well i had already done several searches like that before i even posted on here. i didnt find anything substantial. either links to old, outdated models, or links to accessories. thats about it.
as far as i can tell there are no firewire-based mp3 players being made today. but i wasnt sure, so i thought i'd post here and ask.

Seeing as how Apple owns the Firewire connection, it would make more sense for a company to not have to buy the license to use it, and for them just to stick with USB.

that may be true. but i dont think that even apple doesnt uses firewire anymore. the last ipod that i could confirm still using it was i believe the ipod photo :/

oh well. i was just looking for something 'different' than the normal, typical usb-type

Firewire became almost only pro audio solution for a set of reasons. Now anything with firewire is more expensive then usb version
(audio mixers, portable harddrives) Not that Firewire would be worse then usb 2 for an mp3 player.
In fact Firewire 2 with doubled transfer rate of regular firewire would be indeed, erm... faster?

I guess everyone is after wireless connection even if this is at the cost of transfer rate. Only today I saw a review of a new Archos player with wireless. ..
This is probobly the direction they invest their R&D money, apples and the likes, they seem to have ditched firewire altogether - except for pro stuff sold at premium prices...
