Do electronics hold the smell of smoke?

I'm buying something on eBay and the person has a disclaimer on all their auctions that it's coming from a smoking household. Do electronic items like cell phones hold hold the smokey smell like fabric type items do? I don't want to smell smoke every time I put the phone to my face to talk.

Sure do.

Really depends on how sensitive you are to the smell though.
With old radios and TVs, I think it's an issue with the dust and debris inside. That's what holds the smell.

With something like a phone, it's probably a little less noticable unless they like breathed smoke on the phone all the time.

i bought a laptop from an individual here and it came and reeked of smoke. I aired out the laptop bag for a week and febreezed it daily and it barely helped. I even blew a fan on the laptop to get rid of the smell because it smelled so bad. It still has an odor to this day. Glad my sister bought it.

I pm'd him and he said that was odd that it smelled since he didnt smoke...... yeah right!

At any rate, I would not purchase any items from a household that smokes.

a cell phone wouldn't be so bad...
i bought my current phone from a smoker and it doesn't smell

laptops and monitors hold the smell, as do keyboards and computer cases

Well, then I guess I'll pass on that offer since I really hate the smell of smoke and my wife hates it even more...

Thanks for the quick feedback.

I bet if you open it up and blow it out with compressed air, most of the smell would go away. The worst is things like fabrics and pillows.

Me neither! Whenever I'm interested in an item on eBay, I ask the seller a cautionary question or two. One of them is always about whether or not the item is coming from a smoke-free home.

I get three types of responses back:

1) A resounding, "Yes! - smokefree home."

2) "Umm... yes, I smoke here. Why is that a problem?" (mildly offended, or mad, or whatever that defensive reaction is that smokers tend to wield)

3) <no response> (they obviously smoke and I must be too picky for them to deal with)

They sure as hell do. I took a laser printer from the truck of one of our managers yesterday and walked into our building with it. Since I had just passed my boss at the door smoking I thought the scent of smoke was what I carried in with me. When I got to my office I could still smell it very strongly so I smelled the laser printer and sure enough it reeked. It was so disgusting I put it in a little store room next to my office to get it away from me. I've also encountered this with computers that have been exposed to heavy smokers. GROSS.

I don't think it's just the dust.
I think the plastic absorbs the smell.

We bought a 13" tv from walmart and when we got it home and opened it, it reeked of cigarette smoke. It had obviously been purchased and returned by a smoker. Because it was new, it couldn't have had much dust. We took it back and had it replaced immediately.

Coincidentally, I'm on day 10 as a non smoker. I've never smoked in my house though.
