Do DVDs use 32bit color?

Just wondering, do DVDs use 32bit color? Or is it a waste to switch to 32bpp when watching DVD movies? I sometimes think i see a difference, but then i think i'm just fooling myself.

OH BTW, i posted a few months ago that I couldn't watch DVDs in fullscreen at 32bpp. But I installed windows xp, and tweaked my system pretty good, and now I can watch at full screen no problem.
 
wait, if it's 24bit color, shouldn't it be more colors then 16bit? And therefore shouldn't i see those extra colors when i switch to 32bit, since 32 bit would allow it to display the extra colors between 16 and 24bits?
 
I think 32-bit color is the same as 24-bit, but with an 8-bit buffer. (or something like that... 🙂)

Anyways, I think DVDs are 24-bit, so running 32-bit color would look better. Why are you using 16-bit anyways?
 
I normally run my desktop at 16bit color for increased performance? I can't really see the difference between 16 and 32 bit normally when using winamp, IE, Outlook Express, Morpheus and UltraEdit (the real programmer's text editor). Games switch to 32 automatically if i set them to 32 so the only time i need 32bpp is watching movies. That makes sense doesn't it?
 
Any modern video card won't have any [noticable] performance difference between 16 and 32 bit color when performing in windows.
in 3d games, thats another story.
 
you avoid pictures at all costs?...

i notice pictures look like crap in 16-bit if they have over 65k colors...which a lot do.

anyway, u'll notice a difference in blending mostly by switching...it'll take away from some of the grainy look

also, i can't notice a 2d speed increase going from 32-bit to 16-bit...at least not one that would compel me to switch back to the ol' school 16-bit days, when u missed seeing over half the colors on the screen...
 
What kind of video card do you have? I used to see a difference on a Trident 2MB card, but not on modern cards... Pictures look crappy in 16-bit too.
