Do DVD writers need special software?

I'm looking to buy a DVD writer, the OEM ones are cheaper but I'm unsure if I'd be able to use my current software (nero burning Rom 6, Version 6.3.0.3). Do I need special software or will Nero do the trick?

I use Decrypter too...but Decrypter doesn't compress video does it?

I know you can burn...but you can use any burning software to burn a movie ripped/compressed with DVD Shrink.

Hence why i don't consider it quite as awesome.

he was also referencing the free aspect of using decrypter as the burning prog(personally use Nero myself)..a little roundabout but ..free
