Do drunken minds speak sober hearts?

The saying sounds a bit inaccurate to me. Drunken a couple weeks ago, I said a lot of pretty senseless stuff I would not normally say... many were truths, but many were also greatly exaggerated/untruthful things.

When the sense gets blown out of you by intoxication, you always tell the truth? That can't be right.

Even if you speak truths while intoxicated, you'll also probably be speaking lies. Then remains the question of how to divide truth and lies.

i don't know about booze being a truth serum, but it certainly removes the part of your brain that analyzes thoughts before they come out of your yapper.

I think it's true to an extent. There have been times I've said something and the next day couldn't believe it because it's something I've always felt but never wanted to say.

Sometimes it's major, usually it's just a minor opinion here and there. Luckily, I'm a pretty straightforward person so most of the time I don't have to worry about situations like this.

I speak my mind when pissed off. Never been drunk, so I would love to know how much more open I'd be.

This.

My gf told me this statement after I got drunk with a friend of ours and said something about not wanting to get married ever, and it just happened to find it's way back to my gf...

Booze makes the truth come out a lot more in many cases. It may not always be 100% accurate but odds are it will be more than what you get if the person is sober.

This is pretty much spot on for me too.

I think you tend to say what you mean, but not in the way you would like to say it. What comes out of drunk peoples' mouths is usually unrefined truth; the first thing that comes to mind.

It depends what you mean by truth. Sometimes alcohol might make something come out that you "really" think - that you don't like someone, for example. However, that's not the whole truth, because another part of the truth may be that you are a kind person, that you exercise self-control and try not to just "tell people what you really think of them," but treat them with respect and dignity. This is an admirable and "true" part of a person's character which alcohol might obfuscate. In other words, alcohol might bring out the "truth" that you don't like the person, but at the same time, it hides the truth of admirable aspects of your character which keep you constantly going around blurting out the "ugly truth."

I tend to exaggerate stories by about 500% when I get drunk (not tipsy, but full-on drunk). I usually tell the people I'm out with not to believe a word I say when my eyes become "half-open," as that signals that I am drunk.

I think that the amount of intoxication corresponds linearly to the amount of exaggeration.

Yes, there's a degree of truth to it.
