Do / did kissing booths exist?

I just can't imagine volunteering to get herpes

have any of you actually participated in this event.

it seemed to be mostly in very conservative areas that would otherwise frown upon whoring out their daughters to 100's of men a day, which makes no sense.

Hell yes they existed. County fairs, school carnivals, all sorts of events had "kissing booths" to raise money.

Not so common since about the 70's though with the proliferation of STD's beyond the clap/syphilis. Once herpes and AIDS became "commonplace," the kissing booths went the way of the horse-drawn buggy...

We had kissing booths at Carnival Day at our elementary school back in the late 70's. Although at the time most people preferred participating in things more exciting, like shaving of the balloons. A small helium filled balloon would be covered with shaving cream and you had to see if you could shave of the shaving cream with a razor blade without popping the balloon. The winner got a prize.
