do developers even put thought into their games anymore?

i was bored out of my mind so i decided to play mafia. all was going well until i hit a stupid racing level. you basically have to race FLAWLESSLY for 5 laps in a 1930's car with poor handling. ok, my thought: why in the world would ypu have a 5 lap race in a mob game? also, why would you make it so tedious? i've been seeing this trend lately: a game starts of well and then there is a curveball that completely kills it.

they do it to make it more "challenging" in other words annoy the heck out of you so that when you do accomplish the trivial but difficult task you might feel good about yourself for being such a l33t gamer and able to solve challenging gaming issues

they do stuff like that to slow you down and increase game play time so you don't beat it in 4 hours and get pissed 🙂

thats exactly what i'm talking about. it's just plain annoying. and wtf is up with going through the entire level when you die at the very end in some games?

it sucks

also like Mallow said it's to drag the game longer

i still havent finished gta3 because of the annoying timed missions.

They need to make more games like Leisure Suit Larry.

who doesn't love those. trying everything in sight. using the zipper with everything lol.

i loved the old days of lucas arts w/ their old developers....sam and max....monkey island....xwing vs tie fighter....day of the tenacle....indiana jones: the fate of atlantis...

CLASSICS...

the new monkey island 4 didn't have the charm as the older ones...and no mouse! WTF!

The one I have bypassed so far is the stupid RC helicopter mission. The controls are absurd and with no control over the viewpoint it is just too tedious to be any fun.

I very rarely do this, but I had to cheat to pass that exact same mission. Try searching GameFAQs for a walkthrough; there's a fairly simple shortcut to beat that level.

Aside from that level, though, I really liked Mafia.

I loved the race. Took awhile to beat it but it wasn't THAT hard. Just take it easy in the turns.

EDIT: It's been awhile since I played, but doesn't the game give you the option of skipping the race if you want to?

Actually, Xwing vs Tiefighter, I wouldn't call a real classic. It was a cool idea, but I think the execution was lacking somewhat. the original X-wing and the original Tie Fighter though...those were classics...tie fighter espically 🙂
