Only if they didn't die by gun. If they're shot then the water will go through the hole(s) and they will definitely sink. fast.
 
No, retrievers come equipped with mounting points to attach a tank & mask.

Teaching the little buggers to dive is tricky though.

Actually I believe it's their feathers that cause them to float. They're like tiny hollow shafts filled with air.....
 
All the ones I've ever shot have floated afterwards!

Would of sucked having to use scuba gear to go duck hunting 😛.
