Do CPU sockets have a temperature tolerance too?

That is to say, if the CPU got got enough could the heat coming from it actually damage the socket or motherboard? What about the thermal sensor? I suppose I am mainlu referring to Socket A here. What are your opinions?
 
they shouldn't have a problem with it, especially since the cpu ceramic deflects a good portion of the heat toward the cpu core/heatsink contact surface.
