Do countries other than the US have so many buffets?

I've not been outside the country so I wouldn't know. But seems like everywhere I travel in the US, buffets are all over the place.

You haven't lived until you've enjoyed one of the numerous $1.50 prime rib buffets in Vegas.

The hotel I stayed at in Morocco had a buffet, also the hotel in Spain as well. I didnt find any buffets in the regular restaurants though, just in the tourist hotels.

It's a cultural thing. Just as they download gigabytes of stuff they'll never use, sign up for hundreds of movies at netflix that aren't worth watching, and jump on hot deals for stuff that they don't need.

Dangle a "Beat the system" carrot in front of most Americans, and they'll sign right up.

i went to an AWESOME buffet in taiwan, probably one of the best i've ever been to

it was at the top floor of some department store.. forgot which one

i'll have to admit i felt a little weird, being probably the only american in there, when i went back for plate after plate each filled to their maximum capacity while everyone else would get just one plate with a few pieces of food

You haven't lived until you're comped and escorted to the front of the buffett line.

went to a buffet in japan, forget the name of the type of food

basically the equivalent of a mongolian bbq here, except you get your food and cook it on your table

It probably wasn't an "all you can eat" buffet. ;)

My favorite buffet would be Captain George's in Virginia Beach. All the usual stuff plus goodies like prime rib, shrimp, and crabs. And not junk stuff either. About 26 bucks per person. Worth every penny...

It could have been a Yakiniku tabehoudai.

I've been to the yakiniku, shabu shabu, okonomiyaki, and sushi buffets in Japan. The big difference is that it's like $25 but you have a 1.5 hour time limit (pay $10 for extra 30 min).

I think buffets are a vicious cycle. You have a huge variety of food in one place, which means you do not have to move far to get what you want. You eat. . .get fatter. . . eat something else. . .get fatter. . .eat dessert. . .get fatter. . .gotta get your money's worth or try everything once, so you eat more! Then they got you hooked because you think it's a great value.

i was born in kaohsiung... people in kaohsiung seems to sleep early... people in taipei stay up all night so it is easier to find midnight snacks there.

7-11 have everything however, and they're 100X better than the 7-11's here....

they are probably still talking about the rude American who loaded up without paying . . . and why Americans are SO fat compared with the rest of the world. :p

Just 'cause it is 'all you can eat' does NOT mean you should. ;)
