Do copper shim plates on the Tbirds help cooling?

They do not help cooling. They help protect the core from being crushed. Useful if you're hesitant about installing that new FOP38. :)

In my opinion, they're useless. If you're careful when installing your heatsink, you won't have any use for one. But just in case you wanna be on the safe side, I guess wasting about ten bucks isn't a bad idea.

Just be careful when you're installing a heatsink and you'll have no use for a copper shim.

Ten bucks versus $200-300 processor, no brainer here fellas. Has anybody skrewed the pooch while using one....and actually crushed/chipped the core, NOT that I have heard of. Probably a good idea if using the FOP32/38 cause thier retention thingy is kinda tight :)

the shims don't help cooling at all and if anything, hinders it. i run my tbirds fairly hot and what i don't need is something sending the heat back to the chip ;) i've never cracked a tbird before and if you're careful i don't suspect it would be a big problem. having a shim on it doesn't mean you can be absolutely wreckless w/ the chip anyway.
