I figure if you have to keep going to them then they basically are doing nothing. The fact that insurance companies pay for them does not mean anything, I know some hospitals that started doing "theraputic touch" which is a joke all by itself.

Has there been any studies that proved that chiropractics or "adjustments" did anything at all? Last time I heard there was none but I'm curious if any had been done.

means nothing?

do you keep going to a dentist? to your family doctor? if you keep going does it mean they don't cure anything?

if dentist had their way, you would come in for cleaning's every 3 months, you would get invisiline to correct your teeth of the smallest defect. you would be in their office 4 or 5 times a year. are dentists quacks?

there are economic incentives for all doctors, dentists, chiropractors to get you to keep coming back. that does not make them QUACKS, it just means some people are not intelligent enough to make their own decisions.

btw, spines are harder to maintain than teeth and more vital to overall health, so which do you think you should spend more time and money on?

PULL-ESSE. Don't try to compare a dentist to a chiro. You have a hole in your tooth, dentist fixes it, you don't have to go back unless you have another problem, not the same problem and every week like a chiro.

Oh yes, I havn't been to the chiro ever and just the other day my spine rotted clean out of my back..

And I ask again, do you have any links to studies that prove that chiro's do any medical good (scientifically explainable)?

Hmmm, I've done that with several "real" doctors, Mainly my family phys and ENT. I'm thinking you're just not a medical travesty like some of us 🙂.

(Here I'm awaiting some good info, as I have none)

I used to go to chiropractors ... however I found their treatment's effects were way too temporary for too much money.

I believe a skilled acupuncturist can have the same (or better) effects - but for much longer - and I have never been back to a chiropractor (for 12 years).

I have a chiropractor in the family..I go every couple of weeks when my neck gets sore. So far I've spent...umm...$0! 😛

I always try to take it easy after an adjustment...the relief seems to last longer.

Not every solution is for everyone. Also, the problems will differ. For me, they've been permanent.

I am giving MY experience. 😛

All the backaches and neck pains that I used to get VERY temporary relief from chiropractors are now fixed nearly permanently by my acupuncturist.

in fact, the herniated disk in my neck together with all the other bulging disks give me NO FURTHER PAIN after 7 years after my first auto accident (and 3 years after my 2nd one) . . . In fact, with acupuncture, I am more pain free than BEORE the accidents . . . I'm a "believer" in acupuncture . . . I don't believe chiropractic is in China is it? (seems superfluous to me since they have a similar underlying theory).

There are two kinds of chiropractors.

The old school chiropractor - he/she needs to use an xray machine to determine problems, and uses a "drop table" or some special devices to fix the problem.

The new method chiropractor - he/she uses Applied Kinesiology to determine the source of the problem, which is not just effective with your spin but also other bones/joints, organs, allergies, etc. He/she uses a more targeted approach by placing his hands or thumbs around the spot and cracks/moves the discs or joints or whatever with quick thrusts. Less room for error and more effective, but since they don't "drop" the table, you can hear all the cracking and grinding which is why some people actually prefer the old school chiropractor. Also, the newer method involves a nutritional/supplement approach to health rather than medication.

Chiropractors are quacks at everything else - especially diagnosing disease. I have a friend who is addicted to his chiropractor. He goes there weekly and each week his chiropractor discovered some new disease and prescribed his own brand of vitamins to solve the problem. Of course the chiropractor says all other vitamin brands (especially multivitamins) are useless.

No I don't think this is true. In fact the chiropractor your'e describing sounds like a quack and is of the minority. I asked my chiropractor one time if he thought a particular brand of a certain supplement was okay, and he firm answered "I can't tell you that". I'm like "uh...". He explained that it's AGAINST THE LAW and against the chiropractic standard to put down another brand. Now of course when he used applied kinesiology (drop arm method) to determine if the vitamin was effective, it was negative. He also tried some of his own stuff and still negative. So he explained my body just didn't need it.

...what about chiropractors who do both? 🙂

Think about this: all functions of your body are controlled by your brain. And your organs and senses are connected to your brain by nerves and such that run from your brain through your spine and to the organs and other areas of your body. Look at the spine as a bridge between your body and the brain. If the bridge is not kept properly (is subluxed, out of alignment) then the ride for the messages from your brain to your body is going to be bumpy (organs won't function 100%, numbness and tingling may occur, pain in portions of your back, swelling of the cartilege between your disks). If your back is really a mess, then organs can come close to shutting down completely or you may have long term numbness or pain. Medicine from a normal doctor does not cure this, only adjustments will.
And all of those bones are held in place with connective tissue. Moving the bones back in alignment is going to be in vain if the tissues that hold them in place are misaligned. This is why any benefits that a chriopractor gives you will be short lived unless you go back with frequency. Chiropractors have their place, like releaving imediate pain from auto accidents and such, but don't count on long term realignment unless you plan on going back.

This is why I no longer use chiropractic . . .

Acupuncture has replaced chiropractic in my life . . . for GOOD. 😉

I had back surgery 10yrs ago and have had a problem with chronic pain for almost twice that.
I had an MD in a major Boston pain clinic send me to chiropractor. I would never have gone if a MD hadn't sent me.

In the beginning it helped. The chiropractor assured me 65% of my function back- I can only walk for excercize, anything else causes me pain. He had me start to do an elipitcal machine. I started very slowly, building up to 3 times a week at a low level of difficulty. One day my back went into spasm, like it hasn't since my surgery. The chiropractor said he never saw it coming. I felt better in a few days- he told me to go right back to it. 3rd time my back started to hurt me so bad I couldn't do it anymore. Now my back hurts more than it ever did.

Chiropractor is only good for short-term pain management. Don't use it for anything else, and don't believe their BS that they can cure everything. Needless to say I'm really pissed at this guy and my MD for ever sending me to them to begin with. Shows you how lost the medical profession is when it comes to pain management.

Acupuncture is my next step.

You should see if there are any Rolfers in your area. It's a type of deep tissue massage that works on your connective tissue, although I'm not sure what it could do in your case.

Just look for it, and you'll find it.

Good luck. I was really lucky to find a practicioner - a teacher - from China. The other ones - from here - were (only) partially effective (and one really excellent teacher at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego).

Fortunately - after nearly 7 years of acupuncture (paid for by insurance) - I am "cured" of my neck's herniated/bukging disks.

🙂
