Are chipsets (I have an i845G) in danger of cooking during overclocking?
If so could someone briefly explain why? Particularly if the vcore and mem voltage are default.
It was advised to replace the stock goo with arctic silver on a BG7 board.
I think it would have to be in the high 30's and low 40's for me to get excited about chipset temps....
Chipset can overheat and usually will mask themselves in instability rather then restarts....
With adequate cooling there is really no reason why the chipset should be much about 6-7c max over room temp, IMO...
I have a room temp of 25c right now and a chipset of 28c with just a modest cooling (not like my amd system of the past!!!)...The higher the room temp the more the chipset will be but it would be hard to imagine much more then 30c (86f) for room temp for like a 36-37c max chipset...that should be fine with no danger to cooking the chipset...
