Do CD-RWs need drivers to install?

I'm building a PC and would like to take my old burner from my OEM Compaq and put it in. Would I need drivers for it? I do have the CD for the program from Compaq but no CD for the CD-RW itself. Thanks!

in a way it does.

the programs that you use to burn must support the drive you're using. this is in a way a driver.

and of course, you know windows need CD-ROM drivers to even recognize the drive. so win9x and up have the built in drivers.
